Locusts: Why they do their mass destruction.

Locusts. Locusts are related to the grasshopper insect.

We know locusts when they migrate or swarm by the millions or billions...and the skies become dark and the farmers cringe...knowing what is coming and what will happen.

See for yourself how big a Locusts swarm really is here

This insect behavior is in response to overcrowding. As locust overcrowding grows more intense, locusts respond by mating quicker and the numbers compound astronomically...ending in the locust swarms and locust infestations we know about and read about in the Bible for example.

As we grew up, we learned about the scourge of the locusts. These locusts we were taught, would just swoop in and eat all a farmers crops...just plain devour the planted landscape...leaving nothing...every plant stripped bare. A plague. A natural disaster. Repeated over and over in history.

There is not many things you can do to stop them as their eggs are laid over very wide areas.

HOW TO PREVENT LOCUST SWARMS or HOW TO KILL LOCUSTS or HOW TO GET RID OF LOCUSTS

All of these goals are accomplished by applying pesticides to large areas from planes or plowing under the locust eggs. Poison is also spread such that the locust eat it and the swarms are reduced that way. Fogging or misting applications are also employed to reduce the likelihood of damaging swarms.
But no treatment or method works perfectly and it is a war that never seems to be won.

What can a homeowner do? Not much.
