Stink bugs or shield bugs are as long as they are wide, they are shaped like a shield and come in many shades of browns, greens, and red . Stink bugs stink when you bug them, as many a gardener has learned.
Stink bugs do not harm humans but they are a pest as they eat fruits, ornamental plants and soybeans. Stink bugs and shield bugs do not eat the whole plant, they just "mark" the outside making it unattractive for resale.
Stink bugs become apparent when in the spring and fall, often following your lights, bizillions of stink bugs land on your house or building as they look for a place to winter over. Stink bugs, perhaps thousands of them, then crawl inside through any convenient opening.
The stink bug lives up to its name real fast when you have vacuumed up a bunch of them and left them in the vacuum bag and they begin to smell.

Insecticides sprayed down into cracks will kill the stink bugs but it is not recommended because the decaying bodies will stink.
It is better to vacuum the stink bugs up and discard them in the trash or feed them to your fish or guinea fowl.
